Methods:A total of 120 overweight/obese subjects were randomly assigned to receive orlistat or placebo (0.5, 1.0, or 2.0 mg/kg, three times daily for 4 weeks) for a period of 4 weeks. Weight and body mass index (BMI) were measured at baseline and the end of the study. Blood pressure was measured at baseline and 4 weeks after treatment.
Results:The mean body weight in the orlistat group was significantly higher than the placebo group (7.8 kg and 14.6 kg, p<0.0001) and significantly lower than the control group (2.7 kg and 4.0 kg, p<0.0001). In the orlistat group, the mean body weight was 2.7 kg (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.5-4.3 kg) and the mean BMI was 7.8 kg (95% CI, 6.3-12.8 kg).
Conclusions:Orlistat is a safe and well-tolerated drug in overweight and obese subjects with weight loss.
Orlistat, orlistat-containing dietary supplements (Xenical®, Xenical® orlistat-containing capsules) and orlistat and other non-fatty, non-caloric non-caloric diet products can improve weight loss by reducing body weight. It has been shown to be effective in up to 85% of people with obesity (WHO) who were using orlistat-containing products (Xenical® and Xenical® orlistat). The efficacy of orlistat and other non-fatty non-caloric non-caloric diet products is comparable to that of Xenical® and Xenical® orlistat.Orlistat, orlistat-containing dietary supplements have been shown to be effective in up to 85% of people with obesity (WHO) who were using orlistat-containing products (Xenical® and Xenical® orlistat).The use of orlistat and other non-caloric non-caloric non-caloric diet products is still not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and requires further clinical studies to confirm the safety and efficacy of orlistat and other non-caloric non-caloric non-caloric diet products. This is currently being studied in the USA for obese patients with weight loss over 5% of their body weight, and in the UK for patients with weight loss over 5% of their body weight.
